How Much Does a 5-Day Kerala Trip Cost for 2 People?

A 5-day Kerala trip for two people costs roughly Rs.35,000 to Rs.55,000 on a tight self-planned budget, Rs.60,000 to Rs.1,00,000 at a comfortable mid-range level, and Rs.1,35,000 or more if you go luxury with 5-star stays and a premium houseboat. Those figures are for September 2026 and exclude flights to Kochi. The biggest cost drivers are your hotel tier and the houseboat night, which replaces one hotel night and includes all meals on board.

Last updated: September 2026. All prices are estimates gathered from operator listings and travel-cost research published in 2026, not quotes. Confirm rates with providers before booking.

What the classic 5-day route looks like

Five days (four nights) fits the standard Kerala circuit: fly into Kochi, drive up to Munnar for two nights in the tea hills, swing through Thekkady for a spice plantation and the Periyar boat safari, then finish with an overnight houseboat in Alleppey before a final half-day in Fort Kochi and your flight home. It is the same skeleton as our Munnar to Alleppey 5-day itinerary. The budget below follows that route, so every number has a home.

Full line-item budget for 2 people (4 nights)

The houseboat night replaces one hotel night: 3 hotel nights plus 1 houseboat night. Houseboat rates are quoted per boat, not per person, and the overnight price already includes lunch, dinner, and next morning's breakfast.

Where these bands come from. Budget hotels here mean clean guesthouses and homestays at about Rs.2,500 to Rs.4,000 per night for two, which matches the budget resort band in TripCosmos's 2026 Kerala honeymoon cost research. Mid-range means heritage resorts and 3 to 4-star hotels at Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 per night for the couple. Houseboat bands are per-night figures from Bajaj Markets' 2026 Kerala cost guide: standard or deluxe at Rs.7,500 to Rs.11,000, premium AC at Rs.12,000 to Rs.18,000, luxury at Rs.20,000 to Rs.35,000 and up. The cab band works out to roughly Rs.2,400 to Rs.3,600 a day for the full trip, consistent with both TripCosmos (Rs.12,000 to Rs.18,000 for a 5-day budget trip) and Bajaj Markets (Rs.1,500 to Rs.3,000 a day at mid-range).

Season changes the price more than anything else

September is the tail of the monsoon and still counts as shoulder season, which is good news for this month's planners. One operator, Green Earth Trails, lists its 5-day Munnar-Thekkady-Alleppey-Kochi package at Rs.21,500 per person (based on two adults) up to 30 September, rising to Rs.24,000 per person from October through May 2027, roughly a 12 percent seasonal lift. Peak season (October to March) is the pleasant, dry, high-rate window; December and January sit at the very top. April and May are the shoulder months: warm and humid, but cheaper and less crowded.

Houseboats swing the most. December demand pushes premium boats well past their off-season rates, so if you are considering a December trip instead, read our December budget breakdown before locking dates. And if you are torn between a houseboat and a hotel for your Alleppey night, our houseboat vs hotel comparison runs the per-person math.

Package tour vs planning it yourself

Booking a packaged 5-day tour can land close to the DIY mid-range total, sometimes under it, because operators get hotel and cab rates you will not see as a retail customer. Current September 2026 operator prices:

OptionPrice for 2What it covers
Green Earth Trails, 5-day Munnar-Thekkady-Alleppey-KochiRs.43,000 till Sep 30; Rs.48,000 from OctPrivate cab with driver, hotels with breakfast, houseboat with all meals, Periyar boat safari, guided spice garden tour, GST
TravelTriangle 3-star 5-day/4-night (Munnar-Alleppey-Kochi)Rs.35,000 - 50,0003-star hotels, cab transfers, sightseeing, houseboat stay
TravelTriangle 4-star 5-day/4-night (Munnar-Alleppey-Kochi)Rs.53,000 - 59,0004-star hotels, cab transfers, sightseeing, houseboat stay
DIY, mid-range (this post's table)Rs.57,000 - 93,000Full control over hotels and pace; you pay retail for cab and rooms

The trade-off is control. Packages lock your hotels and route; DIY costs a little more on the mid-range tier but lets you swap a night in Thekkady for an extra day in Munnar or upgrade only the nights you care about. Either way, run the numbers through our trip budget planner before you commit.

Where couples usually overspend

The houseboat upgrade. Deluxe boats already include all meals and AC at night. Paying premium money mostly buys better decor, full-time AC, and fancier food, not a better route. Check what is included before upgrading.

Day-by-day cab hire. A private cab for the whole trip (Rs.12,000 to Rs.18,000 for the couple) is cheaper than booking separate transfers and day tours at each stop. One-way intercity legs cost more per kilometre because the driver returns empty, so the all-days package wins.

Eating every meal at the resort. Bajaj Markets' 2026 figures put a mid-range restaurant meal at Rs.400 to Rs.800 per person, versus Rs.1,200 to Rs.2,500 per person for resort fine dining. Two resort dinners for two can cost what a full day of local meals costs.

Guides you may not need. Green Earth Trails prices a local guide at Rs.3,000 per couple in Kochi or Munnar. Worth it in Fort Kochi for the colonial history, optional everywhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rs.50,000 enough for a 5-day Kerala trip for 2 people?
Yes, at the budget end. Homestays at Rs.2,500 to Rs.4,000 a night for two, a deluxe houseboat (Rs.7,500 to Rs.11,000), and a full-trip cab package put a couple between Rs.37,000 and Rs.56,500, excluding flights. Keep a 15 to 20 percent buffer for price swings, which Bajaj Markets recommends across all tiers.

Does the houseboat price include food?
Overnight houseboat rates include lunch, dinner, and next morning's breakfast on board; that is the standard inclusion across operators like Green Earth Trails. The price is per boat, not per person, so it is fixed for a couple occupying one bedroom.

How much does a private cab cost for 5 days?
Budget Rs.12,000 to Rs.18,000 for the couple for the full trip, or roughly Rs.2,400 to Rs.3,600 a day. Mid-range plans with a larger vehicle or more driving run Rs.14,000 to Rs.20,000.

When is Kerala cheapest for a 5-day trip?
The June to September monsoon is the lowest-priced window, and September still carries shoulder-season rates. From October, peak-season rates kick in: operator prices rise roughly 12 percent, and December-January is the most expensive stretch of the year.

Honest caveat: these are planning estimates from 2026 research, not quotes. Houseboat and hotel rates move with demand, and long weekends or festival dates can spike prices regardless of the seasonal band. Get a written quote before you pay anything.
