Christmas and New Year week is the single busiest stretch of the Kerala travel calendar. Here is what that does to prices, and where the increase actually shows up.
Kerala's peak season runs from mid-December through the third week of January, driven mostly by domestic travelers on school holidays and a smaller number of visitors avoiding cold weather elsewhere. Alappuzha houseboats and Munnar hotel rooms are the two categories that fill up first, often three to four weeks ahead of Christmas.
It is almost entirely in stay pricing. Houseboat operators can charge 30 to 50 percent more for a cabin on December 24 to January 2 than they would in October. Munnar hotels follow a similar pattern, especially anything with a valley view. Food and local transport costs barely move; a thali still costs roughly the same whether it's June or December.
We apply a flat 1.25x multiplier to the base per-day rate for December and January bookings. In practice this lands close to the real average, though a specific houseboat on December 31 can run well above that if you book late.
Two travelers, five days, Comfort style, Munnar plus Alleppey, booked for December: the planner's Comfort base rate of ₹4,400 per person per day becomes ₹5,500 after the peak-season multiplier, before add-ons like a houseboat night are even factored in.
